Create a progressive version of CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference. Make progressivism visible as a movement, rather than a constellation of groups each pursuing their own issue or cause. The purpose of this convention is to create a unified progressive agenda that focuses on the rebirth of democracy in America, the revitalization of secular government, and the end of corporate dominance of our politics.
Establish a liberal media apparatus to counteract the corrosive influence of Fox and its imitators. There are enough progressive billionaires and executives in America to form a media coalition to create programming, cultivate talent and give it a national audience.
Repeal the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and enforce anti-trust laws to diversify media ownership and prevent future consolidation.
Reinstate the Fairness Doctrine as law.
Require social media companies to fact-check all content and information posted to their applications. Rank accounts based on the truthfulness and accuracy of information they post—like nutrition labels on food.
The next Democratic Congress and President should immediately change the Judiciary Act of 1869, and appoint 4 reliably liberal justices to the Supreme Court. Historically, the number of justices equaled the number of Federal circuit courts. Today there are 13 Federal Circuit courts, but only 9 justices. This should be undertaken to reverse Senator Mitch Mc Connell’s theft of a liberal Supreme Court majority.
Institute term limits and arrange terms so each President appoints the same number of justices. Pass a legally-binding code of ethics.
Americans are underserved by their Representatives, and the House cannot adequately address the many critical issues facing the country. Article I, section 2 of the Constitution states, “The number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand.” Currently, there is one Representative for every 750,000 Americans.
Establish and fund a non-partisan redistricting commission to make House of Representatives elections competitive nation-wide.
Form a non-partisan commission of legal, Constitutional and historical authorities to study and propose legal limits on executive authority to be enacted through legislation and by Constitutional amendment. The purpose is to prevent and provide legal recourse for abuses and attempted consolidation of Presidential power.
Strengthen the STOCK Act to require all members of Congress to put their investment accounts (as well as those of their spouses and immediate family) in a blind trust. Require jail time for Representatives and Senators who break this law.
Eliminate the Electoral College and codify the direct election of the President and Vice President in the Constitution. One person, one vote.
Update, pass and ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. In 2020, Virginia was the 28th State to ratify it, but by that time, 5 States had rescinded their ratification.
Amend the Constitution to create a system of publicly-funded Federal elections and cap private donations at $100 per registered voter (adjusted for inflation) and prohibit donations by any organization, corporation, or union.
By 2040, half of Americans will live in just 8 states. Currently, California, with a population of nearly 40 million, has the same number of Senators as Wyoming, which has a population of 700 thousand. Guarantee each State 1 Senator, then apportion Senators based on the population of each State. Increase the total number of Senators as required to ensure fair and proportional representation.
“No citizen, natural born or otherwise, having reached the age of eighteen years who is not incarcerated, shall be denied the right to vote in any election. No citizen who is eligible to vote shall have their right to vote restricted, diminished or impeded by legislation, policy or practice.”
Make voter registration automatic when a citizen is given a social security number. Voting rights will automatically initiate on the citizen’s 18th birthday.
Hold Federal elections on weekends and/or on a secular holidays.
